Dr. Geisler is a general dentist who happens to love to see children. We believe that healthy mouths in children are important to their total well-being. Baby teeth are important for chewing, smiling, speaking, and holding a place for permanent teeth. Fillings
Do you have a large mercury, silver, metal, or amalgam filling? Those words are used interchangeably to describe an older style of filling. Larger fillings weaken teeth and often lead to cracks. What should you do if you suspect a crack in your tooth? Don’t chew on it and visit your dentist to have it examined. Often, the tooth can be repaired and function returned with the placement of a porcelain onlay or full coverage porcelain crown. We take photos of your teeth to show you any cracks next to an old filling. Our goal is to fix the problem before there is pain and also to prevent loss of the tooth. A cracked tooth can be an emergency, so treating it before it falls apart or hurts is in your best interest. Unfortunately, a crack in a tooth can not be fixed always, and removal is the only option. Dr. Geisler will discuss your options after an exam and a film.
Resin Composite
Baby teeth can also be saved by restoring with a crown. Primary teeth are important for chewing, speech and for holding space until a permanent tooth can take it's place. The crowns for baby teeth (also called primary teeth) are prefabricated, which means it is not made by a lab. One is selected for the size of the tooth the same day the decay is removed. It is then shaped chair-side to fit more accurately and cemented in place. Very commonly, baby teeth in the back of the mouth receive a crown that is made out of stainless steel and other alloys. Baby teeth in the front of the most are likely made of a tooth colored (natural looking) composite resin. In the past 10 years, some shift has taken place with some pediatric dentists offering tooth-colored crowns for your child's molars (back tooth).

Veneers are a conservative way to change the appearance of your smile. It is sometimes needed for just one tooth, or can be used across a smile (8 veneers).
