In 1984, Stuyvesant Dental became one of the first dental practices to stop using mercury/amalgam fillings. In 1994, 60 Minutes conducted an inquiry, spurred by the HIV epidemic, into the adequacy of sterilization procedures used in New York dental offices. After visiting hundreds of dental offices, the producer of the project found Stuyvesant Dental to be among the safest. She was so impressed that she brought her own mother into Stuyvesant Dental to become a patient.

Oral Surgery
Dr. Sumner Schwarz is a Restorative / Root Canal / Full Service dentist at Stuyvesant Dental. He was born and raised in Stuyvesant Town. Dr. Schwarz received his BA in biology from the University of Rochester, an MS in medical microbiology from Texas Tech University, and a DDS from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery.

Orthodontics
A variety of dental procedures were used to enhance this unattractive smile. Without orthodontics, teeth shaping, laser gum shaping, and porcelain veneers were used to create a most attractive result.
Invisalign Orthodontics
We first evaluate our patients to determine if Invisalign® is the right choice. The next step is to take photographs and dental impressions. After careful evaluation, we send all necessary material to the Invisalign® Laboratory. Using sophisticated techniques, they analyze the data and send back a complete 3D imaging that we review with our patient. Once we are satisfied with the anticipated final outcome, the lab returns a series of clear, comfortable aligners.

Upon graduating dental school in the top of his class, Dr. Schwarz was recognized by the dental honor fraternity Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He also received awards as an outstanding student in oral pathology and periodontics, and as the most proficient in general dentistry.
