Pediatric Care
Although the FAA allows children under the age of 2 to be held on an adult’s lap, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that families explore options to ensure that each child has its own seat. Discounted fares may be available. If it is not feasible for you to purchase a ticket for a small child, try to select a flight that is likely to have empty seats.
Primary Care
MVPediatrics is contracted with most major commercial insurance companies. There are many different plans offered through each company, so be sure to contact your insurer directly to verify that we are “in-network” with your specific plan. If your plan is an HMO/EPO or requires a PCP on file, contact your insurer to select one of our Physicians as your child’s Primary Care Provider (PCP) before your appointment to avoid any processing delays.
Ear Infections
It is not uncommon for patients, in the course of a routine wellness visit, to receive evaluation and management service for a separate and specific problem, as well as routine/preventative services. For example, your child is seen for a routine visit and the doctor discovers an ear infection or your child has behavioral issues that require care coordination. Both services must be reported to the insurance company and may result in an additional co-payment or charge per your insurance contract.

Emergency Care
In the event or emergency please call the office or doctor on call first before seeking care at an Emergency Room or Urgent Care facility. We want to keep you safe and might be able to save you a visit or arrange for you to be seen as quickly and safely as possible. Many illnesses and injuries can be managed safely at home. We are still seeing patients at the office using very strict precautions to keep your visit safe. Please call first so we can be ready for your visit and keep every one safe. We are also doing Video visits which also us to see and talk to you and your child which can also save you an office visit.

Advice and prescriptions for avoiding infectious diseases while traveling including malaria prophylaxis, traveler’s diarrhea and others.

Immunizations
After immunization, children may be fussy due to pain and/or fever. You may want to give your child some Tylenol or Motrin. DO NOT GIVE ASPIRIN. If you have questions on dosing please refer to the dosing chart on the side of the medication box (according to weight) or see the chart on the other side of this handout, or call the office. If the fussiness lasts more than 24 hours you should call MVPediatrics.

Labor and Delivery
Joan has been with us forever. She received her BSN from Boston College and worked at St. Margaret’s Hospital for much of her nursing career. Joan enjoyed teaching childbirth classes in several Boston area health facilities for many years, as well. She is our Medical Home Care Coordinator and provides services as a Reiki practitioner. Her two daughters have also worked with us, as well as being Oliver’s (Dr. Vonnegut’s son) babysitter.

Internal Medicine
Debbie is a Licensed Practical Nurse with over 27 years of experience. She has worked in Pediatrics, Internal medicine, Family Medicine, Cardiology and Urgent care. Debbie is also a Master REIKI certified practitioner, Thai massage practitioner, and a YRT 200 hr Certified Yoga Teacher, Restorative Yoga, Chair Yoga and Meditation. Debbie volunteers at A New Way recovery center in Quincy offering free yoga to people and their families who are in recovery. Debbie believes in treating the whole person, body, mind and spirit. She is married with three adult children and two grandchildren.

Autism
Alexa is a nationally certified counselor and mental health therapist who began as an undergraduate studying psychology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After spending time working as an applied behavioral analysis counselor at a private school for children with severe autism diagnoses, Alexa moved to Denver, Colorado to pursue higher education. She earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Denver and began practicing in Colorado, ultimately earning her professional license. Alexa has experience utilizing various therapeutic approaches and tailors treatment specifically to each client. Working with adults and children who have intellectual, learning and cognitive differences, trauma, and anxiety are a few, among many areas, she has experience with. Alexa has recently returned to her roots in Massachusetts. She and her husband are enthusiastic baseball fans and are excited to be back to watch games at Fenway Park once again. Alexa is conversant in Greek.

Hope is an Independently Licensed Certified Social Worker who comes to MVPediatrics with experience working with children, adolescents, and families. She received her Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University and has worked as a clinician in adolescent health and pediatric primary care settings. Having received training in a variety of treatment modalities, Hope’s therapeutic approach is warm, approachable, and tailored to the unique needs of each child and family. Her focus is on maintaining a safe and compassionate environment where each individual has the opportunity to discover and cultivate self-understanding, resilience, acceptance, and change. In addition to her work as a clinician, she serves as a board member of the Saint Rock Haiti Foundation and leads a committee tasked with bringing mental health services to a community-based health clinic in Haiti. After over a decade in New York City, Hope has recently returned to her roots in Massachusetts. She enjoys hiking the Blue Hills with her husband, candle-making, and watching documentaries.
Behavioral Health
Wellness includes social and emotional health. Family and community support, along with personal growth and a healthy lifestyle are key. Behavioral Health care involves both prevention and intervention. We offer behavioral health resources to all families to equip patients and families with the tools to thrive.
