General Info: E-Mail: JR Mooney GalleriesJ.R. Mooney Galleries of Fine Art was founded in San Antonio, Texas, in 1947 by Joe and Adelle Mooney. Both Joe and Adelle are native Texans. Robert Mooney joined the staff in 1964 and has developed additional locations as well as new artists and marketing for the galleries.The first forays into the art business came when picture framing and artist materials were added to a wide variety of merchandise. Many San Antonio and south Texas artists used the framing provided in those early years.One of the company's most famous early clients was Porfirio Salinas. Salinas, whose artwork was owned by Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, was a client of the gallery and was represented by the gallery until the time of his death in 1973.J.R. Mooney Galleries has provided framing and representation for many of the notable Texas artists such as G. Harvey, W. A. Slaughter, Dalhart Windberg, and Jose Vives-Atsara.All twenty three major artworks displayed in the 1991-1992 G. Harvey exhibition at the Smithsonian Institute titled " The All American Horse" were framed by J.R. Mooney Galleries.
