I have to disagree...On our way to Louisiana from New Mexico we stayed the night in Abilene at a nearby hotel. We had been on the road all day and were very tired and hungry. We made it 30 minutes to closing and I have to say the restuarant was very clean and the waitstaff very refreshing to see someone at the end of their shift to treat you as though it was the beginning of their long day. We actually sat and ate in the bar area which was obviously a great place to go for a little getaway from the noise. The mood and atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. Wine or no wine I would definitely return for another quiet relaxing atmosphere. My brother n law loved the fact that there were no big crowds to fight thru to get to the bar. The guys played a game of pool before returned to our rooms for the night. Longnecks were only $2 at that time which was quite cheap to our pockets considering we were traveling a ways. ALOT cheaper than the $2.75 we paid for at another bar and way cheaper than the $4 we could have spent on a beer mug had we gone somewhere else. If wine was really that big of deal - u should have gone to wal mart lmao b/c they are located right across the street. since you had problems affording $3 maybe yo can afford some cheap wine there...

Oscar's is a local joint that can't decide whether it wants to be a bar or a Mexican food restaurant. One end of the rectangular building is a restaurant, and the other end is a beer bar (which Oscar euphemistically refers to as a "lounge"). The two halves are partitioned off from each other and have separate entrances.
Hope you're thirsty for beer, because mixed drinks are not available. And Oscar only sells bottles and cans ($3 a pop); there's nothing on tap. We're not sure if the bar has a license to serve wine or not. Oscar doesn't cater to the chablis-and-brie crowd, so it really doesn't matter. This is a very blue-collar type of establishment that exists for the benefit of the locals only; Oscar doesn't get much of the tourist trade.
