This session will focus on exploring how stress impacts health and pain. Sources of stress will be identified. We will explore the difference between healthy stress, which is good and inevitable in life, from distress, which tends to be destructive. Education will be provided regarding various types of stress management and relaxation activities to assist in reducing unhelpful stress and promoting relaxation.
Mental Health
Stephanie Warnock was born in Storm Lake, Iowa and spent her childhood enjoying the simplicity of small town living in Storm Lake and Humboldt, Iowa. She received her Bachelors in Social Work from Iowa State University and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Iowa. After graduation, Stephanie moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she worked as a therapist for the Eating Disorders Program at Riverside Medical Center for two years. Stephanie traveled the AL-CAN with two girl friends in 1991, landing in Anchorage and calling it home. She spent the next decade providing crisis intervention, brief therapy and longer-term group and individual therapy for Anchorage Community Mental Health Services, then known as Southcentral Counseling Center. In 2001, Stephanie took a position with Providence Behavioral Medical Group and continued providing outpatient therapy services to individuals, couples and groups within that setting. She joined the Alliance Behavioral Medicine team in June, 2014.
Psychiatry
Ramzi Nassar was born in Houston, Texas and spent his childhood in various locations both in the United States and overseas. He graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in International Studies and a minor in Chemistry from The American University in Washington DC. He completed medical school at Howard University, Washington DC, graduating in 1991. Then, he completed a residency in general adult psychiatry at Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in 1995. After completing his training, Dr. Nassar spent three wonderful, adventure-filled years working and living in Nome, Alaska serving the Norton Sound region. During this time he successfully completed his board certification in General Adult Psychiatry. In 1998, he moved to Anchorage and continued his psychiatric practice with Providence Behavioral Medicine Group. He served as the medical director of that group from 2004 to 2009. In September 2009, Dr. Nassar established his private practice and is the founding member of Alliance Behavioral Medicine.

Erin is a psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and she has a master’s degree in nursing with a focus on Family Psychiatric and Behavioral Health.
