Emergency Care
A: No, the level of care and attention that patients can expect to receive at an urgent care center is not comparable to what we can provide during a complete physical wellness exam. By law, urgent care centers are not permitted to perform the preventive health exams that we can here at Family Practice Center.
Electrocardiogram
In some instances, additional diagnostic tests like EKGs, urinalysis, and blood tests may be included as part of a complete physical wellness exam. However, this depends on the patient’s insurance coverage. We strongly recommend speaking with your insurance provider before your visit to avoid any confusion or unexpected costs. Evaluation of specific medical concerns including management of acute or chronic medical problems and prescription refills are not covered by insurance as part of a complete physical wellness exam but can be addressed at the same visit for a 50% reduced cost* when compared to the cost for a regular office visit.
Urinary Incontinence
A: Botox® Cosmetic injections are considered very safe when performed by experienced and licensed providers. They are currently FDA-approved for 11 therapeutic indications, including the treatment of chronic migraines, overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis), and more.
Immunizations
The necessary immunizations required for travel depend on what country and region you are visiting. In some cases, these vaccinations will only be recommended. In others, they will be fully required in order to travel. Thankfully, our preventive medicine experts will be able to provide these answers depending on the specifics of each patient’s trip.

Dr. Wheeler completed residencies in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts and in Family Practice at UCLA. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Wheeler has served as Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Northside Hospital. Orthopedics
No. While Dr. Tyler Wheeler is board-certified in sports medicine and others are extremely well-trained in treating musculoskeletal injuries related to sports, our sports medicine services involve a non-operative approach to the medical treatment of these conditions. Treatments we offer include referrals to trusted physical therapists, prescription medication management, and injections. Dr. Justin Kappel is trained in Acupuncture which can be helpful for a variety of conditions. The overwhelming majority of sports injuries do not in fact require surgery. In cases where surgery is required, our physicians are well-connected with some of the city’s best orthopedics surgeons and will gladly help facilitate referrals.

A: Botox® Cosmetic injections do not require any downtime for recovery. While there may be some moderate swelling in the injection area in some cases, most patients are able to immediately resume their normal daily activities.
Liposuction
A: No. Weight loss (bariatric) surgery, and other cosmetic procedures like liposuction, can only be performed by a board-certified bariatric surgeon or plastic surgeon. While we will be happy to make a referral to such a specialist in cases where we feel it would be helpful for our patients, those are not services that we provide at Family Practice Center.

It’s important to be familiar with your skin in order to detect any new growths, moles, or marks that can be a sign of skin cancer or other irregularities. During a complete physical wellness exam in our office, don’t hesitate to bring up any potential concern regarding your skin that you may have. A good way to know if something is not right is if the size, shape, or coloring of a mole or mark changes over time, or if you have noticed a new rash or blemish recently.
