Companion Hospital is listed as an emergency vet on the internet. Last night my 17 year old dog had three episodes of convulsions or stroke. I called Champion. I was connect to an answering service. I told them my dog was suffering and needed to be put down, They informed me that Companion only provides emergency services for established customers.

I begged the answering service to please contact the on-call doctor to tell them what was going on. She told me they had strict rules that vets were available for current clientele only.

This morning I called again to ask if I could bring my dog in because she was suffering. The receptionist, said, I'm sorry, but the doctors are doing surgery this morning. It would have taken less than 10 minutes to put my dog out of her misery.

I will never become one of Companion's regular customers. Based on my experience, they don't really care about pets. I f they did, they would have compassion for all animals not just their clients.

I have been taking my dogs to Companion Animal Hospital for about 9 yrs. now & have been nothing but pleased w/ the Dr.I have 4 dogs all w/ different needs. I have always felt that my precious dogs have been given comprehensive care; however I love the fact that if any of my dogs ever require any sub-speciality care the Dr. will always give me the option of getting that additional care, even if that requires going out of town. I feel my dogs are treated as we would be treated, meaning they receive a full exam not just a quick look over. I like knowing that they are being examined in a complete way & their needs are being met. The staff has always been friendly & helpful w/ any questions I may have.

It is true that your first impression of a business or, in this case, animal hospital is the front desk personnel. Unfortunately my experience as a first time client with my severely ill feline was disturbing. I was asked if I had an appointment and I, of course, did not---my feline was a dire emergency! Why would I walk in to make an appointment when my cat was in need of help? I was, then, advised to drive up to Weslaco (Border Animal Hospital) so my cat could be seen!! NO COMPASSION!! I took my cat to Brownsville Veterinary Hospital and they took her in. Unfortunately, she is in critical condition and the vet told me he was going to do all he could to help her.

Great place, great people, cuz...

Great place, great people, cuz you can't put a price on a family member. Plenty of treats and smiles made my anxious little puppy's first trip to vet one to put in the books - he was right at ease at the hands of Ms. Rodriguez and her assistant. It was so painfully evident that these people were more interested in making the dog comfortable than making the pocket hurt; I will most definitely be back again, because it takes a very special person to handle my over-excited giant of a pup. 5 stars, definitely recommend for pet owners who are actually interested in full treatment for their pets.

Unethical and Overpriced

This is the most unethical and overpriced veterinary you can go to. The vet, Yadira Rodriguez, doesn’t give a damn about animals. All they care about is getting as much money out of you as possible. They will do as many unnecessary tests as possible to charge you incredible amounts and they will force you to buy the medications from them. If you try to order from cheaper places like 1800-Pet meds, they will deny the prescription just to charge you more than 3 times the value of the medications. It’s like going to the doctor and have him or her keeping you from buying your medicines from Walgreens or wherever you want to buy them just so they can charge you 20 bucks for Tylenol. On top of that, expect to spend the whole day there because they take forever to do anything; and it’s not because they have a lot of patients. It’s because they take forever for everything and they just don’t care about your time.

The best decision I ever made!

I now live in Florida, and we have a severely sick kitty. We didn't like the prognosis of our now current vet here. My Fiance called to speak with Dr. Maza, and he gave us all his suspicions and asked us to get bloodwork done on her asap, and even call him back if we need to in order to get his opinion. We're getting bloodwork at a different vet in our area tomorrow. Thank you so much for taking out time to speak with us, even though we no longer reside in the area. You truely are a wonderful Doctor.
