Dental Examination
New patients and those who haven't been in for three years or more will undergo a comprehensive exam by the doctor. This thorough examination will usually take approximately one hour.
X-rays
Many diseases, lesions and decay can only be detected with the use of dental x-rays. It is impossible to see directly between the teeth or under the gums or bone without them. Many times the patient will have no signs or symptoms. Without the use of dental radiographs, the dentist is limited to detect only the disease which is visible in the mouth.

Teeth Cleaning
Help prevent cavities: The whitish film that builds up on your teeth is called plaque and is the leading cause of tooth decay. This acidic substance eats away at the tooth enamel and if left unattended, can lead to cavities. Plaque can be removed by brushing, flossing and professional dental cleanings.
Fluoride Treatment

Fillings
Destruction of more tooth structure -- healthy parts of the tooth must often be removed to make a space large enough to hold the amalgam filling.
Resin Composite
Dr. Prouty uses only the best tooth colored (high quality) composite resin material available. Advances in this material now make it a sound choice, providing long lasting results.
Veneers
Veneer is a thin shell that is bonded to the front of the tooth. Veneers are used to correct shape, size and color issues.
Crowns
If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, Dr. Prouty will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other treatment. Sometimes, there's too much damage for the tooth to be repaired. In this case, the tooth needs to be extracted.
Bridges
Dr. Prouty will often consider dental bridges for people who have missing teeth and practice good oral hygiene. If you have spaces created by missing teeth, your remaining teeth may begin to shift out of position and become more susceptible to tooth decay and gum disease as they take on the additional force of the missing tooth/teeth. Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
Sometimes tiny canals within your tooth become infected. This can be triggered by a variety of causes but most often an untreated cavity is the culprit. The infection usually causes the pulp inside your tooth to also become infected. When an infected tooth is diagnosed or there's damage to the pulp, Dr. Prouty will recommend a root canal.

Deep Cleaning
Scaling & Root Planing (a.k.a. SRP or DEEP CLEANING): Patients diagnosed with active periodontal disease cannot benefit from a healthy mouth cleaning because they require treatment above AND below the gum line. These patients generally receive SRP, a non-surgical treatment that removes build-up, smooths out exposed root surfaces and may include the application of localized antibiotics and fluoride as well. SRP often takes several visits to complete and ongoing periodontal maintenance is prescribed at regular intervals thereafter.

Dentures
Dr. Prouty knows that to truly feel confident in your appearance, a nice smile is at the top of the list. If you have lost or are losing your teeth, you will want to discuss complete dentures with Dr. Prouty. Should some of your teeth remain and are healthy, a partial denture may be the answer to achieving a great smile.

Dental Implants
Our 3D Cone Beam High Definition Scanner allows us to see your jaw in 3D! This scan is very helpful in diagnosing issues otherwise unseen by 2D images alone. And it works in tandem with our CAD CAM system for the most precise implant placement.

Tooth Extractions
Due to the anatomy of the tooth, bacteria become trapped in the roots. Without proper cleaning, such as through root canal therapy, the infection will remain and potentially spread to the jaw or even the brain. A draining, cleaning, or possibly even tooth extraction is needed to fully remove a bacterial tooth infection.
