Pelvic Pain
Cancer can also damage your reproductive health. Aside from cervical cancer, women may also have to deal with uterine cancer or ovarian cancer. Other reproductive issues that are not uncommon for a woman to have to contend with include ovarian cysts, chronic pelvic pain and fibroids. In some cases, it may be necessary to have a hysterectomy in order to get rid of the cancer for good.

Urinary Tract Infection
A woman's reproductive system can be affected by a variety of infections, such as yeast infections (or thrush) and bacterial vaginosis. While these can be unpleasant, they can be treated. Other infections include urinary tract infections (UTI) and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).

One ultrasound study performed on pregnant women with sizeable fibroids found that 69% of them experienced no increase in fibroid growth during the course of their pregnancies. In the women who did experience an increase in the size of their fibroids (31%) the growth occurred as a spurt that was limited to the first trimester. Furthermore, the fibroids almost always shrank after delivery.

You should have a pelvic exam and Pap test every three months for the first two or three years following your initial cancer. Your doctor may also recommend an abdominal and pelvic CT scan to monitor whether the cervical cancer has spread to other organs in the abdomen or pelvis. If you are experiencing any respiratory symptoms, a chest x-ray may be done to determine if the cancer has spread to the lungs. About 35% of women with cervical cancer will have persistent or recurrent disease; the chance that your particular cancer will return generally depends on the stage of your initial cancer.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy side effects can include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, mouth sores and hair loss, while side effects of radiation therapy can include fatigue, skin irritation or changes in bowel and urinary habits. The side effects of surgery are difficult to judge as they are dependent on which surgery you have done based on the stage of your cancer. Some things you can do at home to treat the symptoms of chemotherapy and radiation include staying well-hydrated, making sure your diet is rich in fruits, vegetables and fiber, trying to get extra rest, and reducing your stress as much as humanly possible. You may find it worthwhile to try complementary therapies such as acupuncture, herbal treatments, biofeedback, meditation, yoga, visualization, or vitamin and nutritional supplements.
Radiation Therapy
While the cause of endometrial carcinoma is not known, there are certain risk factors involved which include begin obese (more than 50 pounds over ideal body weight) which increases your risk by ten times, being postmenopausal, going through menopause after age 52, having no children, having hypertension or diabetes, having polycystic ovaries, taking estrogen replacement therapy without supplemental progesterone, or a history of pelvic radiation therapy. The use of birth control pill, or postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy with estrogen and progesterone decrease your risk of developing endometrial cancer by half.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
In hospitals that have taken the plunge and invested in the robotic surgical equipment, gynecologists have seen their practices shift from using open incisions most of the time, to using the robotic, minimally invasive surgery in up to 70% of their surgeries. The advantages of this surgery over traditional, open incision surgeries are too big to ignore. There is the precision of movement afforded by the equipment as well as the much more detailed view of the surgical field that you just can’t get with plain old traditional methods of surgery.
