Kyle Treick, O.D. graduated with distinction from Pacific University College in 2001. Dr. TreickÂ grew up in Oregon and Wyoming,Â receiving his bachelor's degree from the University of Wyoming. He joined Eyecare Associates in 2013 after 10 years of practicing in the Denver area. He has experience in ocular disease treatment, surgery co-management, pediatrics, geriatrics, contact lenses and general family eye care for all ages. Dr. Treick speaks Spanish and has been involved with trips to Peru and Honduras to deliver eye care. He is a member of the Colorado Optometric Association and American Optometric Association.Â He was appointed in 2020 to serve on the Colorado State Board of Optometry by Governor Jared PolisÂ and is currently serving as Vice President.Â Â Dr. Treick and his wife Ethnie have two children and he enjoys spending time outdoors, sports, traveling, and family.
Primary Care
Jacki DeHayes-Rice, O.D., a Colorado native, grew up in Centennial, CO and then attended Colorado State University for her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Leaving her roots, she then moved to Forest Grove, Oregon to obtain her Doctorate of Optometry at Pacific University, where she graduated with honors in 2013. After graduation, Dr. DeHayes-Rice worked in the Denver metro area gaining experience in contact lenses and primary care optometry. From there she moved on to specialize in pediatrics for over three years working along the Front Range. She is excited to be back in beautiful Fort Collins and to have the opportunity to serve the wonderful community here. In her free time, you can find her paddle boarding at Horsetooth Reservoir, running along Spring Creek Trail, or cross-country skiing.

Originally from the plains of Colorado, I moved to Fort Collins in 2012 to pursue a degree at CSU. I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Biology and spent some time as a medical scribe for a small family medicine clinic. Iâ€™m new to specializing in eye care, but learning the technology and techniques involved with examinations is a fascinating new journey. In my free time, I like to hike, play sports, and frisbee golf if the weather cooperates; however, Iâ€™ll always enjoy a good movie, board game, or video game without any complaints.

Glaucoma
While some types of glaucoma don't show symptoms in the early phases, bloodshot eyes can indicate the type of glaucoma that requires immediate medical care. This disease causes damage to the optic nerve due to excessive pressure within the eye. When this pressure suddenly rises, the eyeâ€™s blood vessels become dilated and visible, making the eye appear red.
Macular Degeneration
If you are over 40, it's a good idea to have your eyes examined every one to two years to check for common age-related eye problems such as presbyopia, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
Laser Eye Surgery
If you are considering LASIK, be aware that dry eyes may disqualify you for the surgery, at least until your dry eye condition is successfully treated. Dry eyes increase your risk for poor healing after LASIK, so most surgeons will want to treat the dry eyes first, to ensure a good LASIK outcome. This goes for other types of vision correction surgery, as well.
Cataracts
Whatever is happening with your eyes or if you suffer or even suspect that a foreign body has penetrated the outer eye layer better go without delay to the nearest treatment center. Doing nothing can lead to loss of vision, premature cataracts and damage to the retina so do not take any chances, a delay is dangerous.
Eye Exam
But bloodshot eyes can also signal an underlying eye problem. If your eyes appear red or bloodshot, make an appointment with an eye doctor for a comprehensive eye exam to determine the cause and to receive effective treatment.

Multiple Sclerosis
The optic nerve connects the eye directly to the brain and is to some extent an extension of the central nervous system. Swelling or inflammation of the optic nerve can therefore be viewed as an early sign of multiple sclerosis. Although this kind of swelling can also indicate a number of other ailments or even a viral infection or vitamin deficiency, about 20% of people with multiple sclerosis first experienced swelling of the optic nerve.
