Worst Food In Galveston

I took my daughters here for lunch today. We were told the buffet was still on. When we went to the buffet, nothing had descriptions, the food was cold, dried out and unedible. When we went to pay, i was shocked at the cost, very over priced, I told the member of staff of our disappointment with our lunch, he just laughed, customer service is as bad as the food. Never eat here, you are throwing your money away.

Overall
Very Disapointed

My Husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time on Valentine's afternoon. When we walked in we were impressed by the decor and friendly staff. We sat down and ordered drinks - mine a Bloody Mary and his a vodka/diet coke. When the drinks arrived they were watery. Our waiter then informed us that Bloody Marys were on special for $3 each. Then he informed us that if we ordered pizzas that our order would be out fast - this is after we had reviewed their menu and been told the 'specials'. I was not interested in having pizza for dinner. We ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms for our appetizer, my Husband ordered the calzone and I ordered their seafood pasta special. We waited and waited. We ordered another round of drinks - my Husband ordered a 'double'. When these drinks arrived we were told that they were out of the Bloody Mary mix - this was to be my last drink. My Husband's 'double' was just as watery as the first drink. We looked around at the other tables and noticed that everyone was drinking soft drinks / tea and a few wines - obviously they had ordered mixed drinks here before and knew better. Then the calzone was delivered. The crust had burnt places on the top. After awhile the 'crab' stuffed mushrooms arrived - there was no crab to be found in the massive stuffing atop the mushrooms. Fortunately the sauce, what there was of it, was good and allowed me to down one of these stuffing balls. My husband declined to try them after he looked at them and I described their flavor. So the rest of them were left sitting on the table while I waited for my food. And waited....Finally it arrived. I must admit that this dish was very good but I really could not enjoy its taste after the lenghty wait, burnt calzone and tasteless mushrooms. The waiter offered desert for the long wait - we declined his offer. We had everything boxed up to go. I told the waiter my opinion of their service and food. I informed him that this was our first and - no ands, ifs or buts - our last visit to this restaurant. The next day was garbage day - everything that we had taken home was included in the trash - we did not feel that the flavor would be enhanced by reheating. Do not waste your money or time here - unless you wish to ignore their menu and specials of the day and order pizzas. This is a pizza restaurant with a 'wishlist' pasta menu.

It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante! It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game.
