The University Police Department works to preserve peace and deter crime through the enforcement of local, state and federal laws. It offers services, such as investigation, bicycle registration and operation safeguard. The department s officers maintain 24-hour patrol coverage on foot, bicycles and motor vehicle, as well as respond to crime, fire, service calls, traffic accidents and other emergencies. The University Police Department also participates in crime prevention and public safety campaigns; receives, processes and investigates complaints; conducts security checks; and safeguards the custody and disposal of evidence. It has an investigation division that handles cases related to crimes against persons and property. The University Police Department employs more than 40 sworn police officers. It provides the copies of incident, accident and missing persons reports. The department is located in Lafayette, La.
