General Info: Tykie Skedros is a native of Bountiful and has deep ties to the greater Salt Lake community. He completed medical training at Chicago Medical School then went on to residency training at the University of Pittsburgh. He has a clinical appointment with the University of Utah Department of Surgery and current teaching responsibility for the Division of Otolaryngology at the Salt Lake City VA Hospital. Dr. Skedros is board certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery with clinical interests in general otolaryngology, sleep apnea, head and neck tumors, allergy and sinonasal disorders, thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

Endoscopy
CT scans are the imaging modality of choice for inflammatory sinus disease. The CT scan is used in conjunction with a head and neck exam and sinus endoscopy in our office to evaluate sinus disease. Mountain West ENT physicians obtain CT scans for several reasons. Patients with chronic or recurrent sinus disease may have a bony or structural abnormality blocking adequate drainage of the sinuses during an infection which is often associated with a feeling of facial pressure around the sinuses.

Multiple Sclerosis
A swallowing disorder results when a person is unable to swallow without pain, or cannot swallow at all. Several issues can lead to a swallowing disorder such as foreign objects lodged in the throat, esophageal tumors, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), chronic muscle spasms, and damage from radiation therapy. Patients with neurological disorders are also more susceptible to swallowing disorders, especially those with Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis. To diagnose swallowing disorders, our Bountiful and Layton ENT specialists use the fiber-optic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).
