Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy destroys abnormal tissue on the cervix by freezing it. Cryotherapy destroys some normal tissue along with the abnormal tissue. During cryotherapy, liquid nitrogen, which is very cold, circulates through a probe placed next to the abnormal tissue. This freezes the tissue for 2 to 3 minutes. It may be allowed to thaw and then be refrozen for another 2 to 3 minutes. A single freeze treatment for 5 minutes may also be used. One cervical cryotherapy is usually sufficient to destroy the abnormal tissue.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) test/vaccination â€“ The HPV test is conducted at the same time as a PAP test for women age 30 or older as another early detection screening for cervical cancer. HPV is a common virus that is spread through sexual contact, with no symptoms. There are approximately 40 types of genital HPV. Some types can cause cervical cancer in women. An HPV vaccine, Gardasil, is available for adolescent and young adult women in certain age groups as prevention against cervical cancer. Your physician will provide counseling to determine if this vaccine is right for you or your daughter.

Her clinical interests include adolescent gynecology, contraceptive management, preventative care, abnormal uterine bleeding and treatment of gynecologic endocrine disorders including PCOS, hirsutism and acne. She also performs office-based hysteroscopic procedures such as endometrial ablations for women suffering from heavy menses.

Endometriosis
When medication and non-invasive procedures are unable to relieve symptoms, surgery remains the accepted and most effective treatment for a range of gynecologic conditions. These include, but are not limited to, cervical and uterine cancer, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, uterine prolapse, and menorrhagia or excessive bleeding.

We accept patients 13 years of age and older. A patient of minor age (under 18 years) requires a parent or legal guardianâ€™s written permission. These forms must be signed at the time of the appointment. Consent to Examine a Minor Form (DOC). A special note to patients under 18 â€“ as per Illinois state law you may be seen confidentially without parental consent for services including contraception, std screening, and pregnancy testing. Billing and the insurance claims process may compromise confidentiality and if this is a concern cash payment would be expected. The loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) is used to remove the abnormal area of cells on the surface of the cervix. The presence of abnormal cells does not mean you have cancer, but the treatment of the abnormal area is important to prevent the cells from developing into cervical cancer.
