On Saturday, August 29, 2015 I went to Hawa African Hair Braiding for micro braids. I have short hair so I asked the ladies if they would be able to braid my hair. They said, yes. I was then asked if I wanted the braids for $150, $180, or $200? I asked what they recommended. I was told $200 because my hair was short and the braids would have to be small. I was at the shop getting, what I thought were micro braids, for about 6-7 hours. Towards the end of the process I was asked to pay and I did. When they finished one of the ladies offered to put my hair in a ponytail. I told her no that it would be okay. It was close to midnight when I left. I only looked at the front of my hair. I was tired, my head was sore, and I was ready to go. On Sunday, August 30, 2015 I was in less pain so I decided to put my hair in a ponytail. While doing that I felt, what I thought were bulky braids. I called the shop and spoke with the owner. I let her know that my hair wasn't done correctly and that I needed to come back. She said okay. At this point I'm believing that since it was late maybe they rushed and did a poor job. I decided to take a picture of the back of my head so that I could see, what I still believed were bulky braids. When I looked at the picture I was completely shocked to find what looked like a bunch of small ponytails with braids hanging off them. I called her back and asked if I could send her a picture of my hair. She gave me her cell number. I sent the picture. She did not respond. On Monday, August 31, I called her and asked for my money back. She asked if I could come to the shop so that she could see my hair. I told her I would only come if she was willing to give me my money back. She said that there would be no refunds. I then contacted my bank to file a complaint and start the process to get my money back. On Thursday, September 3, 2015 I began the process of taking down what I now believe to be small ponytails with the braiding hair tied in a knot around it. I discovered that my hair was tied in a knot around the weave. Which is making it very difficult to get the hair out. For about 5 hours 2 ladies sat behind me and deliberately tied my hair in knots, charged me $200, then attempted to hide it by braiding the edges perfectly and putting my hair in a ponytail. The owner was in the shop the whole time. To say that I am angry is saying the least. I feel violated. It is the most unbelievable experience I've had while getting my hair braided. Looking at the pictures I had a hard time convincing myself that I was seeing what I was seeing. And it is even more difficult to explain it to someone else. Especially when they are looking at the perfect braids around my hairline. I am fortunate to have an avenue to recover my money. FOR ME this was a horrible experience.

This place is horrible. They do not do what you ask. Hawa has twins and always stopping to play with her babies. If someone comes in and ask for Senegalese twist, they ask them to get box braids. I saw Hawa doing some Ghana braids and they were so ugly. She used a lighter and literally was burning the girls hair off. He sister can't braid. I got box braids and they were so freaking ugly. I was too ashamed to say I went to the Africans. This place is bad. Their work sucks.PLEASE TAKE MY WORD AND GO ELSE WERE SO YOU WON'T BE MAD LIKE ME. THE PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. NEVER WILL I GO AGAIN!

This is an awful place. Hawa don't know have to do goddess braids that well. It's another girl with piercing everywhere she don't know how to nothing. Hawa just had a baby she have to always stop and breastfeed the baby while doing your hair. They like to take breaks all of them TOGETHER. They jam on your hair that's hard to get out once you take the braids down. She always changing her prices. The like to play African music, speak their language, and watch African movies on a big screen all at once. I asked the lady could she changed the channel to something good she keep it on African movies the whole time. They do a terrible job. When they mess up they try to cover it up so u want know

My daughter and I have been coming to Hawa for the past 3 years and we LOVE IT! :-) Contrary to the two poor review, we love the work and their attitudes of the young ladies that work with Hawa. She too is a sweetheart who believes in providing good quality service to her clients. I think it is important to know that when she came to this shop 5 years ago, the previous owner ironically enough, had the same same as the current owner. I guess Hawa is a popular African name. :-)
