National Association of Insurance Commissioners, also known as NAIC, is a trade organization that works for public interest protection and promotes fair and equitable treatment of insurance consumers. It provides insurance regulation guidelines, as well as encourages the reliability, solvency and financial solidity of insurance institutions. Established in 1871, National Association of Insurance Commissioners includes insurance regulators throughout the United States. With offices in Kansas City, Mo., and Washington, D.C., it offers statutory account maintenance, reporting, financial examination and reinsurance regulation solutions and strategies. Additionally, the organization provides technical support for a variety of international financial projects, as well as administers the NAIC International Insurers Department.
