I purchased a tire warranty on my Yokohama tires with FSTC when they were in Roanoke,Virginia. They closed shop here and now I'm told they won't honor my warranty. BEWARE of Doing Business with Free Service Tire Company.

I went to Free Service Tire because a family member recommended them. I had already purchased my tires and had an appointment for them to be mounted and balanced for 11 on a Saturday. When I got there, the manager told me that a couple of his mechanics had called in with strep throat, and they had a doctor's note. Since he couldn't make them come in, he said, they would be short staffed, and the wait would be at least three hours. At this point, I was a bit irritated that I had driven 40 minutes on a Saturday when they had my contact information and could have called me to let me know there would be a delay. However, I could understand that things happen, but I had plans and couldn't wait. I asked to schedule the earliest appointment available for the next Saturday. I was scheduled for 8:00, and after leaving my contact information yet again, I left. The next Saturday, my husband came with me and we decided to take care of several errands after the appointment since I had wasted a trip the week before. We arrived on time and walked into an empty lobby. When the manager walked in, he didn't bother looking at us or even saying hello. He walked to his computer and began typing, pausing once to speak with a customer who was asking questions from the front doorway. After I said 'good morning' to him, the manager continued to type away at his computer, finally acknowledging me with a 'good morning.' He continued to focus on his computer, but without looking at either of us, started talking about how it had been a rough morning because several of his mechanics had called in with strep throat. Upon hearing that, I knew what was coming. My husband asked how long the appointment would take, reminding the manager that we were there for the tires to be mounted and balanced--a task that should take an hour or less. He told us that it would be at least 10:30 or 11 before they could get to us. Again, another two and a half to three hour wait. And yet again, no phone call to let me know that there would be a wait. My husband asked why it would take so long, since we were there at the beginning of the day, and he told us that it took a long time to mount and balance tires, plus they were short staffed. We told him that we were not able to leave the car, and my husband said that it should not take more than an hour to mount and balance the tires. The manager replied "If you can do that, then I'll give you a job" and walked out of the room. When he came back, we told him we would be leaving and take the car elsewhere. We called Thompson Tire immediately after leaving, and they told us they would be able to fit us in by 10. We were there at 10 and the car was finished before 11. My suggestion is to avoid this place--don't even bother with an "appointment"-- and go to Thompson Tire.
