We were just walking by and were directed in by a leaflet pushing lady. The restaurant's decor is so so, typical Chinese restaurant, service was fast, almost rushed but the food was exceptional. We had the dim sum sampler for two and had too much to eat. It was the best Chinese food I've had in a long time and really, food is what a restaurant is all about.

Our party of 5 had toured a lot of the shops in Chinatown and we were ready to eat something authentic from the area. We were on our way to another restaurant that we had previously gone to, but were beckoned into this one by a very polite lady seeking street patrons. We were not disappointed. We had their sampler at $12.95 per person. The food was wonderful from the egg rolls through 8 dishes to the dessert of Green tea ice cream. The experience reminded me of the same Chinese dining i experience in Boston's China town many yrs ago.

I have been to many China towns across the country so when my daughter and I had a 10 hour layover in San Francisco I decided to explore downtown SF and Chinatown. The pushy lady in the street gave me a flyer and suggested (a little pushy) we head down the street to Chinatown Restraurant. It was started in 1919 so it must be good so we when in. it was kinda awkward being guided (coached) up a steep staircase but once we got up stairs there were people eating. This was very good food with large portions. I had the Pork Buns and the Shrimp Dim Sum and it was great! My daughter had the standard Sesame Chicken and it was huge enough for us to share and beautiful white meat. if your looking for FANCY Don't expect it to find it in any Chinatown. The place was typical for the area and a little wore but the food was great.

My family eats at China town in Chicago. This was better than many other Chinese restaurants. I don't agree with the previous posts. Staff was friendly, service was great. We ate there tonight for dinner around 6:30 pm. They got busy later, but service NEVER lagged. Price was great. We had the dim sum combo plus two sides. It was $47 for 4 people and we were stuffed!

My husband and I were visiting San Francisco for a friends wedding recently. During one of our days touring we stumbled upon the Chinatown Restaurant on Washington Street. My husband has a thing for trying egg rolls every where we visit, so we had to stop in. I tried the Kung Pao Chicken and it was Amazing! My husband loved the egg rolls so much he purchased a few extra after our delicious meal to go. The atmosphere here was truly lovely, a bit historic and unique all at the same time. The service was also fantastic, friendly, and fast! We both highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning!!

bullpoop.

so, my cousin, sister & i decided to take a trip down to san francisco, in celebration for 4th of july.

as we were strolling through chinatown, a lady hands us a coupon for Chinatown Restaurant.

the coupon included complimentary potstickers, complimentary green tea ice cream, & 20% off all lunch & dinner entrees.

we got there, was promptly seated, and asked for our drink orders. we told our waitress, and she grabbed our drinks. when she came back, she quickly asked us for our order, and since we were still undecided, rushed to put the order in. after we were done ordering, she kept insisting on other foods to try. it got annoying, so we just passed on her offers.

as she left, the "bus boy" quickly slapped down a plate of 4 potstickers. as we waited for a "check-up" from our waitresses, we sat, waiting for the small bowls for the sauce. at this point, our individual drinks & hot tea were empty, & we were still pretty thirsty. we tried our best to get our waitress' attention, but after ignoring us several times, we had gotten impatient. i had asked our waitress for our refills & small bowls, & replied "okay okay." 5 minutes had passed, & still, no drinks. no bowls. then, our shrimp dim sum comes out. we're hesitant to eat, because we're STILL thirsty, & still lacking the small bowls. so, we wait a few more minutes, & finally ask the "bus boy" to refill our drinks & bring us the bowls. he also replies with an "okay". after taking a bite out of our dim sum, we still waited for our drinks & bowls. next, the beef chow fun comes out. as the guy tries to get away, we AGAIN, ask for our drinks & bowls. after a few more minutes, our pork dim sum come out, & after that, our fried prawns. we waited impatiently for service, or, at least ANY attention to be paid to us. the restaurant was not busy, & our waitress was not to be seen since i first asked her for the refill. she had never checked on us after we received our food, neither. then, the hostess comes to our table, & asks if she can use our chair. i then tell her "yes, if we can get our refills." she then immediately says "$2.00" refills, & walks away, without even taking the chair.

we never got our refills & bowls, & we never saw our poor waitress again.

when we received our bill, we tried to ask the manager a question about it, insisting that the 20% discount applies. she then rudely tells us that it's "ONLY FOR LUNCH&DINNER ENTREES", without trying to further explain. we were there. we dined. for LUNCH.

then, we let it go, & asked about our ice cream.

she then says "no. it doesn't come with it, but i'll give you to-go."

service was very RUSHED, in some aspects, but also SLOWW service, in others.

we decided that the service was so poor, that we left no monetary tip, but some words of advice....

"poor service. slow down!"

we would DEFINITELY not recommend dining here.

there are $5.99 ready-to-order dimsum shops, that i would bet are more hospitable than this place.
