Could not be more disappointed.

This place RUINED my jeans.
I went in to inquire about having a pair of PRPS Barracuda (Japanese Selvedge) altered. My inquisition was explicitly about whether or not she could taper the leg slightly (1/2") without cutting or otherwise changing the beautiful purple selvedge line on the out seam. This selvedge line is what defines PRPS premium denim. The woman told me it would not be a problem at all and I thought we were in complete understanding. I even reiterated my desire to "keep the selvedge line intact."
When I picked up my pants, I was horrified to find that the selvedge line had been completely cut off of both legs. I almost cried. After a few minutes fumbling around in the back, pointlessly looking for the now un-attachable remains she re-emerged with a smile (and NO APOLOGY mind you) to offer to "compensate me on my jeans I'd just dropped off." This job being a simple knee patch. I was shocked. She didn't even offer a refund on the taper job. These were $354.00 jeans, and they are now effectively worthless. I could not possibly be more disappointed. I had gone in for a few minor alterations and had been, for the most part, happy with their work. This level of disregard for my specific request, coupled with a complete lack of understanding of why the selvedge line was important in the first place has left me no choice but to once again begin a new search for a decent tailor in Kansas City. I'm beginning to lose hope.

Avoid Expert Alterations - for...

Avoid Expert Alterations - for the money they aren't worth it. I have went to them off and on for the last 5 years, only if I am really desperate to have something done. They are too pricey for the work that I need them to do, and they take AT LEAST 2 weeks to get anything done. The last time I took something there they didn't even do it right and were going to charge me again to do what I wanted them to do. For as much as they charge they should do a good job, which most of the time they do but they are not very friendly & turn around time is crap - try Rydell's in Brookside, they are pricey as well but at least you get your clothes in 2 - 3 days and they are just as good quality, and friendly!

Much appreciation for the girls at Expert Alterations

I've had work done by this store 4 times now and I can say that I've finally found an alteration shop I can go back to again and again with confidence. I was going to a place in OP that was marginal at best but it was close to where I work. I'm glad I found this shop on Rainbow much closer to my house. The staff is always pleasant even while juggling phone calls, making measurements on patient customers, and trying to satisfy the inevitable impatient customer.

I've always been satisfied with their work and will recommend them to anyone I know.

100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION!

These ladies have been altering my clothes for over 15 years. They are very knowledgeable and pleasant. I would highly reccommend them to everyone. The prices are very reasonable. I have lost alot of weight over the years and they have worked miracles on my wardrobe. If there is anything I that I felt like needed tweaking at the time of pick up, they gladly took care of it for me. There are times when I have taken in alterations and they were very back logged, So it may have taken about 2 weeks to get back my garment, but that's the worst of my complaints. I know they get very busy. I could'nt ask for better service!

I love this place!

I have been a regular customer for years and have always received great personal service and excellent tailoring. Most recently I had several pants altered to become maternity pants and they were done in a flash. I also think of them anytime I want to personalize a gift with embroidery. I highly recommned them for any alteration or monogramming needs. And the new in-store clothing boutique is worth checking out too!

20 years in business my @#$!

This was my first time patronizing Expert Alterations and defiantly my last. I took a informal wedding dress into the shop to have the wrinkles steamed out, just like the prior reviewer stated my dress had never been out of the plastic. I regretfully ask my mother to tag along with me because she needed some minor work down to the top part of her mother of the bride dress. what a big big mistake. We initially went to the shop on a Tuesday Nicolette greeting was not warm I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and over look her bipolar mood and hope she was trying to understand my mother request. Nicolette pretended to understand she even added in a few suggestions I guess to play off the clueless look she was giving, now I know what that deer in the headlight look meant, wow did we make a big mistake. We returned on Thursday, and Nicolette gave me my dress if I did not have eyes I would not believe it but my dress has 2 stains, and when I pointed out the stains to Nicolette she quickly denied that “they” stained the dress we did not do it! was her first response never taking a look at the stains or offering to try and remove the stains or even cleaning the dress. It gets worse, the sloppy work done by the teenager in the back was not worth the money paid, my mothers dress looked unaltered we stood in that moldy smelling shop 30 minutes more while Nicolette used the lowest form of wit trying to justify the pathetic work done I would never recommend this business to my worst enemy what a waste of time and money. Do not let the second hand clothes or the over price jewelry / accessories fool you Nicolette is disrespectful, unconscious to customer respect let alone service.

quick and helpful

I have never had but great experiences with expert alterations. I have taken numerous rush jobs to them and they always take care of me. Also my husband has used them, and has not had 1 complaint. We will always take our alterarations there!

NOT Recommended

I had been a repeat customer until Expert Alterations incorrectly hemmed a bridesmaid dress and oil stains were found all over the dress virtually ruining a $200 dress. They also incorrectly hemmed two pairs of my boyfriend's pants. What really upset me was the lack of customer service I received from Nicollete in handling both issues. I will never return nor would I ever recommend Expert Alterations to anyone in the future.

Don't do it!

I lost a lot of weight so took my shirts in to have taken in. The total bill was $1,800 and I ended up taking the majority of the clothes to the homeless shelter. If you see a homeless man in a shirt that hangs on him crocked or doesn't fit, you can rest assured it was one of those shirts. They are extremely unprofessional, expensive, and disappointing. Run before they ruin your clothes too.

should be named: We'll rip you off

I brought a bridesmaid dress in and they charged me over $150 for alterations. $20 for a simple hem, are you kidding. Not to mention the work was moderate at best. Never saw a smile.
