*Some patients will encounter a flare up between 6-10 weeks. In this event, it is suggested that you begin a course of Aleve. You may take 2 tablets twice a day with food. This is provided that you are in good health with no outstanding medical conditions and have no known drug allergies to anti-inflammatory medication. If you do have any type of medical condition, including but not limited to hypertension or stomach ulcers, please check with your primary care DO/MD before beginning the medication.

Dr. Figueiredo’s twenty-five year medical career (nine of which spent in the United States) includes having practiced at a busy trauma center in the beautiful state of Maine and having taught medical students and resident physicians of one of Brazil’s top private hospitals (Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein) as well as at the prestigious Loma Linda University, in California – where he served as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. He also served as lead physician and medical coordinator of a busy emergency department in Brazil – an experience that, he says, very significantly enriched his medical and leadership skills. He has lectured nationally and internationally on complex orthopaedic themes and currently serves as elite reviewer of the Western Journal of Orthopaedics.

Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy involves inserting a small instrument called an arthroscope into your joint. The arthroscope contains a miniature video camera and light source. The video camera displays picture on a monitor giving the surgeon a clear view of your joint. Your problems are diagnosed and treated at the same time. The procedure is performed through small incision on an outpatient basis under anesthesia as a same day procedure. Newer technology allows us to perform a diagnostic arthroscopy in the office. The joints commonly examined and treated are hip, knee shoulder, elbow and ankle in our practice.

Hip Replacement
Until recent years, patients suffering from hip pain had limited treatment options, which means they were often forced to live with the pain until a total hip replacement was needed. Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure performed as an outpatient under anesthesia. It is used to diagnose and treat labral tears, impingement, remove loose bodies and treat other tendon conditions.
