Prenatal Visits Welcome to Twin City Pediatrics! We are excited and honored that you are considering Twin City Peds for your future pediatric healthcare needs. It is always special for us to be invited by new parents to join in the care of a new baby. Watching a baby grow and develop into a wonderful child is one of the primary reasons that we all feel privileged to work in pediatrics. The doctors at Twin City Peds offer complimentary prenatal visits several times per month to meet expectant parents and answer any questions you may have. At your visit, you will take a brief tour of our office and have an opportunity to meet with one of our pediatricians. This meeting is an opportunity for you to get to know more about the physician who may be caring for your child for the next 18-22 years.
Primary Care
I decided to become a doctor in college; from the beginning I knew I wanted to do primary care. I love getting to know families over time, and watching my patients grow! I am so thankful to have such a rewarding job!
Emergency Care
Shortly after graduation from NC State, I married my husband, Mathias, and moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. There I worked at a local urgent care and then as a medical scribe right here at Twin City Pediatrics! This experience, as well as years of babysitting, volunteering with various children and adolescent ministries, summer camps, and working at a preschool, created a passion in me for working with the pediatric population that is undeniable. This passion only grew while attending PA School at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. I love that primary care providers get to practice continuity of care so that I can get to know my patients and their families. I aim to be a listener, advocate, teacher, and friend to those that need it.
Immunizations
Ing the length of time children are susceptible to vaccine preventable diseases), nor is there any indication that the vaccine schedule set forth by the CDC, ACIP, and AAP puts undue stress on the immune system of children or introduces too many antigens at any one time. The total number of antigens introduced by way of vaccinations over the first two years of life is approximately 150, which is a small fraction of the roughly 2,000 -6,000 antigens that children encounter in their environment every day.

Gastroenterology
I received my undergraduate degree in English from Wake Forest University and later moved across town to attend Wake Forest University School of Medicine. One week after graduating from medical school in 2008, I married my longtime high school sweetheart and medical school classmate, David. We moved to Nashville for residency at Vanderbilt University, where we enjoyed exploring all that the Music City has to offer. I completed my residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in 2011. We returned to Winston Salem in July 2011 for David to begin his fellowship in gastroenterology. He is now a practicing gastroenterologist in town.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Bringing your child to the appointments. If you miss a scheduled appointment for an ADHD visit, you are responsible for calling to reschedule that appointment. Your child will not be given a prescription for additional medication until you have come for their med check.

Radiology
When your child is sick, we will evaluate him/her by identifying symptoms and performing physical examination. Some children require laboratory tests. Most lab tests, including the tests for strep throat, urinalysis, and blood cell counts, are performed right in our office. We are fortunate to have the latest in radiology just up the street at Forsyth Medical Center's outpatient imaging location on Maplewood Avenue. X-ray evaluation could not be more convenient.

I grew up in Connecticut and moved to Charlotte in 1997. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2001 from UNC Charlotte. I then moved to Winston-Salem and practiced nursing until completion of my Master of Science in Nursing from UNC Chapel Hill in 2006. I worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) for the Department of Neurosurgery at Wake Forest Baptist Health for five and a half years treating both children and adults with brain and spine problems.

Eczema
I decided to pursue a career in medicine during my time in college and always knew that I wanted to work in pediatrics. While I enjoy the science of medicine, what I love most is the opportunity to work with children and their families. In addition to preventative care, I have interests in allergies and related diseases (i.e. asthma, eczema), mental health, and the effects of digital media on infants and young children.

For older children and teen physical exams, these visits are a chance for us to check on educational successes and goals, and to perform necessary sports physicals required for participation.

My wife, Marcie, and I met in Chapel Hill and were married as I started medical school and she finished her physical therapy degree. We moved to Shelby, NC in 1988 to join the Shelby Children's Clinic where I practiced pediatrics until moving here. We have three wonderful children and one active dog, Callie. When our youngest started college, we began thinking about starting a new chapter in our lives and the opportunity here at Twin City Pediatrics was the perfect chance.
